I’m Kurt Angstadt, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, business owner, real estate investor, triathlete, and family man who founded K Wealth Advisors to provide insightful planning to live your best life!
When I’m not focused on helping clients live their best life, you can find me enjoying time with my family, coaching soccer or wrestling, taking a day trip to the shore, pouring a glass of wine with friends, or working on my latest project around the house. If you can’t find me doing any of those, you can bet I’m swimming, biking, or running.
WHY I BECAME A
CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™
I enjoy helping others and seeing what we can accomplish when a well-crafted plan is put into place. Having a plan when life happens, removes the stress, provides insightful decision making, and allows for more palatable adjustments.
I learned the power of a plan when my father was “downsized” from his 25+ year career with one company. One day he reported to the C-Suite, the next, “here’s your exit pension package.” Being in my early teens, I didn’t fully understand the impact this would have on my family, but it set the tone for my future years ...
Like a good financial steward, my father called his adviser. To this day, I remember his conversation on the kitchen rotary, with his broker a.k.a., "his advisor." His broker worked on commissions and product sales, and advised him to take the single-life annuity while he invested the rest. The broker never asked any follow-up questions, all he saw were dollar signs. Simple questions that a CFP® would offer: How’s your health? What is the age difference with your spouse? or Do you plan on working again?
Long story short, and 14 years after my father’s passing, my mother lives well, but it would be a less-stressful lifestyle if the advice came from a Fee-only, Independent, Fiduciary that guided my parents to the joint annuity option all those years ago.
"TRUE WEALTH ISN'T MEASURED BY THE DOLLARS IN YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, BUT RATHER BY THE CAPACITY TO LIVE LIFE ON CHOSEN TERMS."
HOW THIS CHANGED MY APPROACH
I (We) need to have better financial education with the highest fiduciary standard. Decisions should only be made with the clients best interests first.
My father’s experience led me to self-educate and gain the personal knowledge to make my own insightful financial decisions. My career started at one of the largest mutual fund companies, Vanguard. There, I learned the basic investment knowledge to mastering the CFP®. I moved on to a local trust and bank company to hone in on my trust knowledge. After several years of tailoring my craft, and learning to run a fee-only business with two small firms, I started K Wealth Advisors. This would be the perfect backdrop to provide insightful planning to help my clients live your best life.
Why should you strive to become financially independent?
How real estate helped me become financially independent.
No one wants to be dependent on someone else, especially when it comes to money. Like most college grads, I knew I had to eliminate my student debt to become financially independent. Real estate along with hard work and enjoyment of woodworking, helped me see how real estate could provide a path towards financial independence. After graduating, I started investing in real estate. My first forte was converting single family houses to duplexes. Today, my wife, Katie, and I continue to invest in long-term rentals as part of our financial independence plan.
